Give Em The Evel Eye!! Steve Soraci

If you are in the NYC Tri-State Area and attended a local car or bike show you likely came across Steve snapping away with cigar in his mouth taking some really cool photos. I followed Steve for a long time on the social medias before we actually met live. What a humble and talented photographer. Any way I think we hit it off pretty good and the years passed but we finally got him to do a blog story! check it out!!!!

1. State your name for the record and what ya do ?

Steve Soraci. I use way to many cameras and mediums to have fun and make photos.

2.  I Absolutely love your photography.  How did you get into it?

Started takin pics of my son’s baseball games and just started carrying  my camera with me wherever I went. Always went to car shows. And tried my hand at Cheap Thrills in Asbury and just seemed to gain a small following. By word of mouth from a few good people it seemed to expand my base.

3.  I tried my hand at photos and wasn’t very good!  How long have you been honing your craft ? And was it a lot of trial and error?

Honestly a lot of my older stuff sux when I look at it. And there was nothing but trial and a shit ton of errors.  I watched a lot of YouTube and asked questions to those that were willing to talk, and to this day still do. There is quite a network of what we call nerds that love photography both as photographic content itself and the art you can get out of it or consider it.

4. I know you shoot a lot of different subject matter.   What’s your favorite stuff to shoot?

That is a tough one to narrow down because it more of a love for machines and the culture behind them. Two or four wheels. But if I had to put one thing on it there is absolutely nothing more finer than a vintage Panhead,  chopped or stock it does not matter to me.

5.  You spend a lot of time shooting.   How much time to spend editing ???

This answer can be fun topic. But I’ll be real and normal. For social media posting or my website less than a min or 2 on each photo just to make sure the colors and skin tones stay consistent across different devices. For prints about the same mostly just to make sure subject matter is straight and colors are correct  for the photo stock paper I choose from my printer. And magazine work I will put a lot of extra time on again to maintain consistency and sharpness based on the paper stock being used for print.  For my film shots most are right off camera and scanned. I have edited a few just because why not. If you can it’s my work. Let’s see if that pisses any purists off.

6.  You are in the motor culture world a lot .   Have you owned any cool cars / bikes or have a dream one?

Had a 1972 RS SS z28. A 79 z28. A handful of dirt bikes as a teen. And I have a small pile of parts that will turn into my own Panhead build at some point. At this point a primary cover. Rocker boxes. And a piston. lol. Oh and a bitchin original iron cross tail light from the 80s from Jammers handbook I believe.

7.  Is there a particular event that stands out as amazing shoot ?

My fav events to shoot where I always seem to have fun, hang out, have beers, and still get amazing content is any A.M.C.A. swapmeet. Anything that rolls down the street in Asbury Park in the last few years has been great to me. And I have made a lot of good friends.  And also anything my friend Willie Gee is involved with.  And a bar on the west side of NYC and a distinguished few guys that let me shoot thier bike nights there. Looking forward to T.R.O.G. 2024

8. You have so much amazing content.   Have you ever thought of doing a photo book??? I’d be a buyer!

Yes I have on more than one occasion and actually have proofs together for something NJ chopper related. I had a deadline for myself on it but made it an ongoing thing till the timing is right to sit down and finish layout and design.

9.  What advice could you give to folks starting in photography?

Never be afraid to ask questions when you see someone else with a camera. Mostly anyone will always bullshit, share some advice and just be positive about someone being serious about it. Always get prints of what you shoot. There is nothing that compares to seeing a shot in print. Film, digital, cell phone it doesn’t matter what from, print it. Share it. That’s really it to me.

10. Where can folks see your work? Any upcoming events ?

My work can be seen on my website www.eveleyephotgraphy.com or on my Facebook under the same name. My instagram is steve___666 on this account it’s my main and a mix. On chopperazzi_mag you can see nothing but choppers because they fucking rule. And also because I have to much content so the concentration of bikes is shared there.  Then there anolog__intelligence which is strictly film work that I mess with to learn.

As far as upcoming events I’m not planning on any viewings or anything like that. It isn’t really my thing. I have been jumping into some garages again and covering content and working with a few on some of their stuff. Which opens doors for me to build my own work. But it’s all just sporadic. This really is just a hobby gone slightly wild for me. And I don’t want to ruin it with deadlines. Or commitments.  Although I do have a backlog of print orders I really need to take care of just for those I have taken shots of rides or bikes.

Thank you for the opportunity to do this it was fun and it actually made me think on a few things I have to focus on and redirect energies on what I need to do.

THANKS, Steve!!! Check out some of his work below!!
